Angleton Danbury Medical Center Gets Electronic Forms Directly Into EMRs with Access Intelligent Forms Suite?s MEDITECH Scanning and Archiving Integration

Sulphur Springs, Texas (PRWEB) May 03, 2012

Angleton Danbury Medical Center, an acute care facility based in Angleton, Texas, needed a way to get forms into the MEDITECH Scanning and Archiving document management application without paper, to standardize patient forms and to create barcoded wristbands. Hospital administrators selected Access Intelligent Forms Suite to meet these needs.

?Access?s electronic forms management technology is proven to be effective and to integrate with MEDITECH,? said Owen Huett, Director of Information Systems at Angleton Danbury. ?We want to be as paperless as possible, and recognized that Access?s solutions would help achieve this.?

Previously, an admissions clerk registered a patient in the MEDITECH HIS, and then retrieved hard copies of the required forms. When the patient got to a clinical floor, a nurse pulled the forms needed by their department ? another time-consuming, laborious process. The challenge was compounded by a lack of forms standardization, and version control issues resulting from use of outdated forms.

Access Intelligent Forms Suite transformed this process. Now, when the patient is registered, the admissions clerk simply clicks a button, and all required forms are generated on demand, with patient demographics applied. The patient quickly completes the forms and applies a secure, electronic signature with Access e-Signature, via an LCD pad. Completed forms are sent directly into the correct patient?s EMR via seamless integration between the Access system and MEDITECH Scanning and Archiving (SCA).

?With Access?s Image Portal, we push e-forms into MEDITECH Scanning and Archiving without generating paper or manual indexing,? Huett said. ?This is a huge time saver and we know the forms are going into the right medical record.?

The benefits don?t end there. Once registration is complete, the Access system generates the required clinical forms to a nurse?s station, helping clinicians proactively prepare for the patient?s arrival. A barcoded wristband is also created, which is enhanced by a patient photo taken by the registration staff ? another way of ensuring positive patient identification.

?The ability to output e-forms and a barcoded armband at the same time is extremely valuable,? Huett said. ?We also plan to make us of the armbands in supporting bedside medication verification.?

This is just one of the ways that Angleton Danbury intends to extend its Access solution. Huett and his team are considering using Access e-Signature to capture bedside consents and social services forms. In addition, the hospital sees potential in Access?s Universal Document Portal, which could capture output from fetal monitors, standardize it and send it into the EMR via MEDITECH SCA ? another paperless, hands-free process.

?Instead of us cutting up fetal monitoring strips, sticking them down and scanning them, we could use Access Universal Document Portal to easily and cost-effectively get them into EMRs,? Huett said.

Freedom Cigarettes, the UK?s Favourite E Cigarette Brand Is Going to Expand into the US Market This Year

(PRWEB) May 03, 2012

Electric cigarettes, e-cigs or e cigarettes, as they are known, have never been as popular as they are now with many smokers are making the switch from traditional cigarettes. E-cigs contain no tar, tobacco or omit second hand smoke so they are a healthier and more socially acceptable alternative to smoking tobacco. Freedom Cigarettes have only been running for nine months, but in that time experienced a massive increase on sales month on month. They are winning a good amount of the UK?s market share and are now looking to broaden their horizons by moving into the American market. The electronic cigarette market in the US is by far the most competitive in the world with big players like Blu Cigs and NJoy leading the pack. The US market is also quite fragmented with lots of SMEs serving clients on a local level and acquisition is a tactic Freedom Cigarettes might employ.

?We are always looking at new ways to expand our business operations and the America market is the next logical step. The initial penetration will be the biggest investment in time and money, but will a good strategy you can reap the rewards. We have been very successful expanding our operations into Ireland, experiencing a massive increase in our customer base, not just from existing smokers, but vapers too looking for a quality and reliable product. The American market will present a lot of new challenges; however we feel that our business plan is pretty solid and our team is more than capable,? commented Richard Power of Freedom Cigarettes.

Publisher Solves the Problem of Delivering Secured PDF Format Books on Apple?s iPAD

(PRWEB UK) 3 May 2012

A long-standing problem for book publishers and training organisations is how to leverage and protect the value of their existing catalogue by developing new media offerings without huge costs, complexities and risks. One option is to convert their catalogue of publications into ePUB format and outsource the technicalities to the major distribution channels such as Amazon?s Kindle Publishing facility or Apple?s iBookstore. However, there are several major issues with this approach: the net revenue received by the publisher from the main channel, Amazon, is typically very low; the format of many of the reader devices so widely used ? Kindle, Nook, iPhones etc are unsuitable for larger and more complex documents, especially those that have a lot of formatting and images; and it can be relatively costly, complex and unsatisfactory to convert existing files to the ePUB format. The ideal solution is to publish files in PDF format, direct from a publisher?s or training organisation’s own website or via third parties, in the confidence that this will be inexpensive and secure and with a cost model that is affordable for even the smallest organisation.

Since 2006 Drumlin Security have been delivering cost-effective PDF security solutions to a wide range of organisations ranging from training enterprises and international engineering companies to traditional and non-traditional publishers. These solutions provide delivery to Windows PC and Mac computers, but until now, not on mobile devices such as the iPAD. However, in a major breakthrough, working closely with their client Swiss-based publisher Taxbooks GmbH, Drumlin Security have devised a very simple, effective and efficient solution to this long-standing problem. This comes in the form of a very small and fast app for the iPAD (available from the iPAD App Store) coupled with Drumlin?s well-established in-network Digital Rights Management (DRM) service. The Taxbooks app includes a built-in (updatable) catalogue of selected Taxbooks titles (see iPAD screenshot) with a one-touch download process and simple DRM authorization using a 9 character code issued to customers. The new Taxbooks app is used for the imprints of the publisher Verlag Steuern und Recht GmbH, a sister company of Taxbooks GmbH.

A free general purpose app: “Javelin reader” is also now available from the App Store and enables both standard PDFs and secured PDFs to be downloaded or synch-ed to the iPAD and then read by users (with DRM authorisation when required). Publishers can load their own catalogue (or a subset) onto the iPAD and test the process using standard PDF files with Javelin right now. A brief User Guide explaining how this works is available within the Javelin reader app and directly downloadable from:

http://www.drumlinsecurity.co.uk/ipad/userguide.pdf

Bespoke applications for specific publishers, file conversion to the secure PDF format, and the delivery of DRM services for the iPAD are provided by individual quotation. The end-user apps (Taxbooks and Javelin) are provided free of charge. Details of pricing for many of Drumlin’s services are shown on the Products and Services page of the Drumlin Security website.

Secured PDFs can have a wide range of controls applied: date expiry, user-specific watermarking, prevention of various forms of copying (file copying/emailing, cut-and-paste prevention, screen capture protection etc) and controls over printing rights. Drumlin Security’s software is available for all MS Windows OS platforms, Apple?s Mac OSX, and for mobile tablet devices (for Apple?s iPAD right now, and in due course for Android devices). For courseware providers and publishers there is no need for special software on their websites or in-house servers and usage of the DRM facility can be easily integrated into any eCommerce/shopping cart facility with little or no extra work. The secured version of PDFs created using the Drumlin software can be placed on a web site, CD or emailed to a user or customer.

Drumlin Security provides several options that offer an easy and cost-effective way to manage materials in PDF format and ensure that those receiving the files cannot onward distribute them. For Training organisations this applies to documents provided on training center facilities and to documents supplied externally to subcontracted trainers and to students taking part in Distance Learning programmes. For Educational publishers, like Management Pocketbooks, their entire catalogue in secure PDF format is already available online for PC and Mac users. For more details please try out the Taxbooks and Javelin apps via Apple?s App Store for the iPAD and visit the Drumlin Security website, http://www.drumlinsecurity.com

Pentec Advances the Future of Patient Care with Live Video eVisit

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) May 03, 2012

Pentec Health, Inc. today announced that it has launched a live, video enabled eVisit service as part of the company?s myPentec suite of electronic healthcare solutions. eVisit allows doctors to address the needs of some of their most complex specialty infusion patients, such as those with cerebral palsy or who are physically disabled, while the patients remain at home.

Pentec?s eVisit service enables live, video-based visits between doctors, patients, nurses and pharmacists. This confidential, HIPAA-compliant, secure online electronic communication platform demonstrates Pentec?s commitment to investing in technologies that improve the quality of healthcare, while expanding the landscape of how healthcare is currently provided in the United States.

In an effort to better monitor the progress of patients receiving treatments at home, Pentec Health recently launched two other myPentec offerings, a Physician Portal and a Patient Portal. These solutions enable 24/7 access to medical records and two-way, HIPAA-compliant electronic messaging. eVisit is the third capability, rounding out one of the most advanced approaches to home healthcare.

Doctors and Patients Embrace the Technology

Dr. James Bressi, D.O., of Summit Pain Specialists in Ohio?one of several states where eVisits are reimbursed?is an early adopter of Pentec?s new technology, which he dubs ?technology-assisted medical treatment.? Dr. Bressi utilizes Pentec?s services to treat approximately 80 of his patients with severe, chronic pain and spasticity.

?The types of patients we?re dealing with are highly complex with limited mobility and where infection is at a higher risk. Mobilizing them for an office, clinic or hospital visit is painful. In addition, there is added time and expense for doing so,? he explains. ?Most of the time, we can see many of these patients at home. With Pentec?s video capability, I can see the patient; see his/her face. The pharmacist is able to get my order, and we can do everything for the patient we would have done in the clinic, but allow him/her to remain in the comfort of their home.?

Patient Francis Martz recently completed an eVisit from his own home with Dr. Bressi. ?When you are disabled like I am, it (eVisit) makes it easier to have a visit with the doctor one-on-one. Most importantly, it also makes it easier on my wife.?

Interactive Videoconferencing at Work

Pentec Health?s 50 home care nurses in 20 states are equipped with all the necessary hardware and software to enable an eVisit. During an in-home visit, the nurse can, for example, assess certain levels of medication and request a prescription refill. If a concern is raised during the course of the visit, such as evidence of adverse medication effects, the nurse can initiate an eVisit to demonstrate the clinical symptoms in ?real time? and obtain the physician?s recommendations for treatment.

Michael Abens, General Manager and Executive Vice President, Pentec Health explains, ?The launching of eVisit enables us to better serve our patients and our physicians through timely and relevant communication across the team. There is a fundamental difference between a doctor reading a nurse?s note to ascertain a patient’s status versus direct, live video interaction. It eliminates any delays in changing therapy and makes sure everyone is on the same page regarding the patient. We are doing our part to help patients achieve outcomes?and lead healthier, longer lives.?

Changing the Landscape of Quality of Care in the United States; Reducing Costs

Videoconferencing capabilities currently exist and are highly accepted and practiced in the hospital-to-hospital environment. While eVisits for home care are not yet reimbursed by insurance companies in all states, it is gaining traction.

A 2010 survey by Forrester Research reported that patient eVisits are gaining momentum due to increasing consumer demand for improved access to clinical services, and availability of new technologies. Online consultation has been shown to prevent an office visit for about 40% of patients.

Furthermore, the American Academy of Family Physicians supports virtual/electronic visits, and there is a recognized need in rural areas as reported by the Department of Health and Human Services. As of 2009, 20% of the United States population was located in rural areas?making a routine office visit for complex patients an arduous task.

?This is the wave of the future,? explains Tim Leffler, Chief Information Officer, Pentec Health. ?We are combining proprietary and commercial electronic medical records and video technologies to deliver real-time video-based patient care solutions that benefit not only the patient but the referring physician, and the payor. Doctors agree that reimbursements for eVisits are needed and they are urging health plans to follow the lead of other states.?

Abens added, ?Connecting the doctor to the patient at home and keeping them out of the hospital, clinic or doctor?s office is a sure way to keep costs down. We recognize this. Doctors recognize this. It?s only a matter of time before the insurance companies catch up.?

Ron Hubbard who directed Scientology technology to be made readily available to enable anyone to take ?effective steps to arrest and reverse the deterioration of a world where the individual is increasingly beset by economic, political and social forces that seem more and more overwhelming.?
